Increase recycling of packaging
| Source : Tetra Pak International |
Tetra Pak’s goal is to facilitate recycling in every country it operates. To do this Tetra Pak works with recyclers, local authorities and customers and is setting market-by-market targets.
In 2010, over 30 billion Tetra Pak cartons were recycled globally, a twofold increase since 2002.
Within its new environmental programme announced in 2011, Tetra Pak committed to help double the global recycling rates of its used beverage cartons by 2020. With an estimated 5% annual growth rate achieving this goal would mean that about 100 billion used beverage cartons are recycled in 2020 alone.
In Europe beverage cartons reached a 36% recycling rate in 2010 and achieved a combined rate for recycling and energy recovery of 65%. See www.beveragecarton.eu
